| Hi. First off before we start this interview could you please introduce yourself and your bandmates to our readers. How is it going for you guys and where are you at the moment?
Jordan: August Burns Red is Jordan Tuscan on bass, and Matt Greiner on drums. Josh McManness does vocals, and Brent Rambler and JB Brubaker play the guitars. We are currently on tour with Bury Your Dead, Terror, and Scars of Tomorrow. We drove from San Francisco last night and are currently driving to the Hawthorne Theatre in Portland, Oregon. Tour is great thus far regardless of the fact that none of us have showered in 3 days and look haggard.
You guys were formed only couple of year ago in 2003. Where did everything start? What were your musical idols back then? How did you came up with the name August Burns Red ?
Matt: We were all friends before the band and could all play our instruments. We were all into heavy music and started jamming around in a friend’s basement. We eventually upgraded to practicing in an outdoor garage and we now practice and write in an egg-room on a farm. Musical idols of my own (Matt) were Extol, Between the Buried and Me, Living Sacrifice, and Luti-kriss. I (Jordan) was really into Norma Jean, Converge, and Between the Buried and Me.
Jordan: Well our name came about because of an incident that occured in my life. My birthday is in August and on the day of my 16th birthday I got in a bad grilling accident. My hand slipped out while I was flipping a burger and my hand went straight into the red hot coals due to the grease on the handle of the spatula. As soon as I pulled it out I looked at my hand and it was all bloody and the skin was peeling off. It took me 3 months of recuperation before I could once again play bass. So to make a long story short we were trying to think of a solid band name about the time of the incident. Everyone else in the band thought the story was crazy and we fashioned the name August Burns Red after it.
Your new and first full-length album Thrillseeker will be released on November 8th through Solid State Records. How did the recording process of the album go? What are your opinions of the final product?
Jordan: The recording process ruled Adam D. of Killswitch Engage produced and engineered our album and he is nothing short of an incredible dude that loves to have fun. We spent a couple weeks at an incredible studio called Darkhorse Recording Studio in Franklin, Tennessee recording the album. It was an amazing time. We are super stoked about the final product. We can’t wait for everyone to hear it
Describe the sound of August Burns Red to a person who hasnìt ever heard of you before.
Jordan: The music is heavy and aggressive without being boring and repetitive. We attempt to write interesting music that is complex yet catchy enough to listen to over and over again. Rock
What´s the theme of Thrillseeker ? Name us one song from the album that you recommend everyone from HardcoreSounds.Net to check out.
Jordan: It’s about living life to the fullest and taking advantage of every opportunity you get. It is all about someday looking back on your life and being satisfied with what you’ve done for others and the person you have become. God gave us the incredible gift that is life and he wants us to live it happily.
Youìre currently on tour with Scars Of Tomorrow, Bury Your Dead and Terror. How has the tour been so far?
Jordan: It has been awesome so far. All the dudes in the other bands are really cool and the kids that come to the shows seem to really dig the music and have a good time. And when kids are having a good time it makes it all the better for us. It’s definitely a fun time for us.
Your tour will end on November 20th for your CD release party. What are your expectations for that gig?
Jordan: We can only expect the best from our home town. We love where we’re from and the kids that live there. We always have so much support from the kids back home, so we are expecting a fun time.
Your future plans for the near future. What will you guys be doing after finishing this US tour? Where can we catch you guys in Europe on tour?
Jordan: We are going straight out again with Reflux, Ed Gein, and Animosity from December 1st till December 21st. Its going to be straight out around the US again, so you can expect to see us around your town. As for Europe, we don’t have anything in the works, but we definitely cannot wait to get over there soon
You could imagine a dream tour. Where would you like to travel and which artis would you like to share the stage with?
Matt: My (Matt) dream tour would be playing Europe with Coldplay, Meshuggah, and Radiohead .
Jordan: I (Jordan) would say As I Lay Dying, Meshuggah, and The Red Chord anywhere.
Your musical interests. Whatìs currently hot on your playlists? Name us one band that you recommend everyone to check out.
Jordan: Hot on the paylists, okay here it goes.Sufjan Stevens- Seven Swans, Darkest Hour-Undoing Ruin, Iron and Wine-Our Endless Numbered Days, Denali- Self Titled, Meshuggah-Catch Thirty Three.
Matt: it goes as follows. Between the Buried and Me- Alaska, Behemoth-Demigod, A Life Once Lost-Hunter, Coldplay-X&Y, Beneath the Massacre- the new one. We would definitely recommend checking out Life In Your Way, they are awesome dudes that write awesome music.
