BIOGRAPHY:
The idea of Verenn saw its daylight when Jussi was doing his military service. At that time he played bass in a rock band called "The Drama". The people in The Drama moved to different directions, geographically as well as musically, so after six years of making music together, the band broke up. That was when Jussi started to develop the idea of Verenn.
In April 2000, Jussi wrote the first two songs under a project title "Verenn". Songs were simple tracker based, pure industrial heavy metal without vocals. The experiment encouraged Jussi, since the songs seemed to work really nice. Jussi wrote more songs and bought different kinds of studio equipment for the purposes of track composing.
Soon it became pretty clear that the songs really required vocals. At the beginning Jussi used a female vocalist, but gradually he started to feel that a male voice would suit Verenn's overall sound better. During the years 2001-2003, a couple of male vocalists tried to fill in for the missing link, but the co-operation did not produce the results Jussi was hoping for.
Then, in summer 2003, Jussi went fishing with his old friend Mikko, who had been the vocalist of The Drama. In the course of events Jussi decided to ask if Mikko would be interested in writing lyrics and composing the vocal lines for Verenn. As the answer was enthusiastic yes, the guys started to make some demos, and "Soul" and "Stars are out of Place" were born from the collaboration. The puzzle was finally complete.
In autumn 2004, the first promo CD was released, and it gained positive attention in several internet forum. At the same time the productive songwriting team begun working with new songs.
In the spring 2005 Verenn took a big step, as the musical collective around two bands, Verenn and Maplesnow, joined forces and started an independent record label, Matara Music. Verenn was given the great honour to produce the first MM release: Awake EP.
So the story continues. And we promise, you rock music lovers: Verenn will keep on producing great tunes and fantastic soundscapes with full heart and true love to the music itself!
