Skepsis
Through The Eyes Of The Dead

THE REVIEW:

Through The Eyes Of The Dead, the modern death metal outfit from Florence, South Carolina has been one of the few modern death metal bands I have been following almost throughout their whole career. The band which has gone through a lot of line-up changes during their career and definitely had their hard times, has always risen from the ashes and unleashed better and better albums each time. The first two full-length releases through Prosthetic Records, “Bloodlust” in 2005 and “Malice” in 2007 were both really promising efforts so with a lot of anticipations I put the band´s third album “Skepsis” in to my CD-player.

The band who has been said to get their name from a Cannibal Corpse song entitled “Staring Through the Eyes of the Dead” will release “Skepsis” on February 2nd through Prosthetic Records. Unlike on their previous albums this time the band handled the production duties by themselves which you really can´t say from the sound of the album which is as great as it has been on the previous albums. The album is also the first one featuring the new vocalist Danny Rodriguez and guitarist Chris Henckel which both have found their place in the puzzle nicely. Danny is a great vocalist who back-ups nicely the heavy guitar hooks and furious blast-beats with his strong growls and screams. Chris Henckel has also been a good addition to the band because you really can´t even notice that there has been a line-up change within the guitar section. Both guitarists Chris Henckel and Justin Longshore just shred like maniacs with their axes and really give “Skepsis” a Through The Eyes Of The Dead- type of dark and merciless atmosphere. When most of the band´s usually become softer and mellower with each album by concentrating more into the melodies, Through The Eyes Of The Dead have done the opposite and even raised the amount of insanely fast riffs and blast-beats into their music. The album is tight as fuck, breaking every neck that starts to bang his head while listening to this effort. As a highlight track I would pick “The Manifest” which has just insanely fast blast-beats as well as a great vocal work from the new frontman Danny Rodriguez. He surely knows how to unleash his inner demon while growling the lungs out from his chest.

I must say that after spinning through “Skepsis” few times I was completely sold-out. The band´s way to be just insanely brutal and melodic at the same time is something a lot of band´s in modern death metal scene lack nowadays. The vocals are amazing and Danny Rodriguez really seems to be as a natural replacer for Nate Johnson. The artwork done by Paul Romano is a nice addition to the perfect death metal package that definitely demands every modern death metal fans attention. “Skepsis” is a rock solid modern death metal album which shows that Through The Eyes Of The Dead has once again defeated the line-up changes and came back more pissed off and brutal than ever!
