To Plant A Seed
We Came As Romans
THE REVIEW:
I remember getting into We Came As Romans last year in the times the band released their first EP titled “Dreams”. A friend of my recommended the band to me and suddenly I found myself listening to the EP through over and over again. The material it contained was both catchy and aggressive while still remaining original enough to keep me interested of the band. After noticing that the band had inked a deal with Equal Vision I started to follow the band and now half year later from the signing the band is back with their debut album “To Plant A Seed” which will see the daylight through the label in three days, on November 3rd.
Despite from the fact that I have listened to tons and tons of post-hardcore releases during the last four years and really got totally sick into it, there are still some releases that positively surprised me even in the year 2009. First I See Stars released their amazing album “3D”, then The Devil Wears Prada unleashed “With Roots Above And Branches Below” and now in the beginning of November where the year 2009 is almost over We Came As Romans come and punch me in the face with “To Plant A Seed”. So why is this album better than the boring releases usually coming from this genre? Well first, each song on the album is full of catchy riffs and hooks that just demand your attention and second, the dual vocals from David Stephens and Kyle Pavone which range from brutal screaming to clean singing just fit into the music perfectly sending the listener into an emotional rollercoaster. Third but not the least is the drumming which also fits nicely into the music and backs the guitars riffs up nicely. When you have a working combination like this and you add producer Joey Sturgis (The Devil Wears Prada, Attack Attack!) to do magic behind the producer board, the result is just as great as we can hear in “To Plant A Seed”. As a highlight track I would pick “Dreams” which still in my opinion is the best song We Came As Romans has ever done. It´s everything you can ask from post-hardcore / screamo song, period!
Despite from the fact that a lot of people consider post-hardcore as a plague in today´s music world, We Came As Romans show with “To Plant A Seed” that post-hardcore can also be done with style and maturely. If you´re a fan of I See Stars, Asking Alexandria, In Fear and Faith or Attack Attack!, “To Plant A Seed” is definitely a perfect addition to your collection. It´s a pure deal with 10 amazing songs and no fillers!

of mice & men, dying diva, of angelina, ahimsa sunrise, agraceful are also worthwhile bands to check out. This band did stand out a bit, So many of these bands sound identical, and really it doesnt help when they interchange members like theyre one giant band. Even if these guys sound the same as the last guys,"not that they do or dont, use your own opinion" The musical talent is definitely there.
