At The Night Sky
Snipe Drive
THE REVIEW:
The story of Finnish alternative rock band Snipe Drive began in 2001 when the band was formed by brothers Heikki and Antti in Tuusula. After releasing few demos and EP´s the band finally got signed to 92Dawn Records who released the debut album “Cables” in 2007. The album got some air-play in the Finnish radios and the band started to play in bigger venues in Finland. In 2008 the band had the honor to open for Smashing Pumpkins in their Ice hall gig in Helsinki. The end of 2008 Snipe Drive wrote songs for their new album “At The Night Sky” which will be released on April 8th through Urbanited Recordings and distributed by Playground Music Scandinavia into Scandinavian area.
The band marks for example Billy Talent, Cold, Faith No More, Head Automatica, and Weezer as their musical influences and I must admit that Snipe Drive is some sort of mixture of these bands. The vocals which to me sound a bit like Benjamin Kowalewicz sounds in Billy Talent are definitely a refreshing to hear and it gives the album a lot of energy. The nice different rhythms and mood swings makes the album sound really diverse and modern really giving me a good taste into mouth. The band sounds original and they really don´t try to sound too much like their influences except maybe a bit vocal wisely. All the dozen tracks are really well balanced offering the listener a journey through a emotional rollercoaster. It´s really hard to pick up a personal favorite since the album is such a tight package so I this time I am not going to even try picking one or two special ones.
“At The Night Sky” is definitely Snipe Drive´s most offering to date. The band which has taken their name from the street the brothers Heikki and Antti lived has definitely created an album that should get atleast somekind of recognition within the Scandinavian alternative rock scene. Even though there are a few weaker tracks in “At The Night Sky”, the overall feeling the album gives is definitely positive and I can surely recommend this effort to anyone who is into alternative rock in general. Check this effort out if you´re into bands like Billy Talent. You´ll propably like it even more than I do already!
