Tuomittujen Joukkoon
Nicole

THE REVIEW:

Finnish modern metal heroes Nicole took almost a year break in 2008 to focus completely on writing new material for their fourth album and editing their new DVD. The DVD “X” was released on February as a teaser for the new album and it went immediately into the Finnish DVD chart into position #1. Now a month later finally on March 4th the new album ”Tuomittujen Joukkoon” saw the daylight through the band´s own label, Biotech Records.

I have been listening to the album ever since it came out and I must say that it definitely isn´t a let down to a Nicole fan. The band has returned once again more pissed off than ever and the material we can hear on “Tuomittujen Joukkoon” is the heaviest in Nicole´s history. The band really seems to be taking their music step by step into the heavier direction and I really don´t see it as a bad thing if the soup tastes as delicious as “Tuomittujen Joukkoon” tastes. Vocalist Ilkka Laitala doesn´t give any mercy to the listener while unleashing his demonic screams throughout the album. The band cut off all the clean singing parts on their previous “Sivu Syyttömistä” album and it really seems that the band has no plans to add them back into their sound. The production from the band´s long-time producer Sami “Hannu” Koivisto is once again really powerful and the sound world off “Tuomittujen Joukkoon” is absolutely flawless. The sound is really powerful and brutal like we have used to hear and the guitar work from Olli Ketola and Ilkka Laitala a top notch. When you add the drummer directly from hell, Ville Sahakangas to the mix, one of the best Finnish modern metal releases of 2009 is ready to be served. As a highlight track I would pick “Syvä Vesi” which just takes down the listener with it´s bone crushing and merciless brutality.

With ”Tuomittujen Joukkoon” Nicole once again proves that they are one of the best Finnish modern metal acts out there. If you´re into modern metal and you enjoy listening to bands like Diablo, Lamb Of God, As I Lay Dying or even Meshuggah, “Tuomittujen Joukkoon” is definitely an album that you need to pick up and check out! Finland´s finest is back, heavier than ever!
