Go West Young Man, Let The Evil Go East
Greeley Estates
THE REVIEW:
I remember few years ago in 2005 when a young band named Greeley Estates unleashed their first EP titled “Caveat Emptor”. My friend recommended me to check out the band and I almost immediately got hooked into the band´s post-hardcore rallys. Unfortunately somehow I missed the band´s first full-length album “Far From Lies” in 2006 but luckily now on 2008 the band strike back into my mind with their latest release “Go West Young Man, Let The Evil Go East”. The effort will be released in May 6th through Ferret Music.
Greeley Estates as well as many of todays young band has gone through a lot a line-up changes but somehow it feels like it has united the group and made it a tighter unit. Like usually in todays post-hardcore scene band´s pretend to use the same kind of formula to create new songs but you can clearly hear that the new air the group has gotten into their band has helped them while writing “Go West Young Man, Let The Evil Go East”. It is true that the band maybe isn´t the most original out there at the moment but they are definitely not your standard mediocre band. Already from the first notes of “Blue Morning” the listener will be taken down in the ground and the punching begins. The opening track just blasts away the listener with it´s strong screams and attacking guitars. Vocalists Brandon and Ryan make a deadly duo behind the mic and the screams as well as clean parts sound really great and clear. The album continues offering amazing post-hardcore blasts one after another but as a standout tracks I would mention “Desperate Times Call For Desperate Housewives” because of the shocking drum work from the drummer Bchamp and just nice little breakdowns from the guitarists Brandon and Alex, “There´s Something Wrong With The World Today” because the catchy choruses and sing-a-longs and “Go West Young Man” because of the absolutely beautiful female choir in the end of the song.
Ferret has definitely made a great choice while signing Greeley Estates and the band truly redeems all the promises with “Go West Young Man, Let The Evil Go East”. The band has progressed a lot within the past few years and created an album each post-hardcore fan should own. If you´re a fan of catchy hooks and just hysteric screams, this is one hell of a package for you.

I was really impressed with this release ..I have followed this band for a while and am So glad they journeyed away from the "emocore" thing ..they still have tendencies but its just roots ..and im certainly glad they kept the screams unlike other bands "cough" dead poetic cough" ..ha ..but yeah
