Until The End
Widescreen Mode

THE REVIEW:

Finnish Riihimäki based Widescreen Mode is one of the bands who have shown us that you can succeed without having a record deal. Originally the group was formed already back in the 90´s but because of the members where so young at that point and still had studies left, the group was put on hold. In 2003 the band once again started showing a signs of life and already few years later the group´s demo gained few “demo of the month” titles in various Finnish magazines. The group´s smash hit “Everlasting Bomb” which is also the first single from “Until The End” album has been on the top 10 Finnish national download chart now for 14 weeks.

Usually band´s who combine rock / metal into melodic combinations have only one or two tracks on their album that has so called “hit” potential but “Until The End” is an album packed of great guitar riffs and catchy hooks. The group plays quite poppy and “radio” friendly combination of metal and rock which has seemed already to appeal to a lot of Finnish people and it´s easy to see why. The dark guitar riffs get immediately stuck into your head and the more you listen to the album, the more you´ll get addicted to it. Vocalist Samu Brusila has a really typical gothic voice which back ups the axeman Janne Lahtinen´s dark riffs just amazingly. To be completely honest there isn´t any weak links on “Until The End” and every single ingredient have found it´s own place in the delicious soup. As a stand out tracks “Everlasting Bomb” is of course worth checking out but be sure to also check out tracks “Dead Inside” and “She´s Lying” which are both just packed with memorable riffs and mind-blowing moments.

So how on earth a band who doesn´t even have a record deal dominates download charts? First I want to say that check out “Everlasting Bomb” and then you will know the reason. “Until The End” has been produced by Jani Loukas and it has been mixed by Anssi Kippo (Children Of Bodom, Stam1na) who have both done absolutely professional work behind the board. The mastering for the effort has been done in Sweden´s Cutting Room by Thomas Eberger (The 69 Eyes, Opeth) so as you can already see from the people behind “Until The End”, the group has put a lot of effort as a independent act for this album. Widescreen Mode has taken a chance that has paid off 100%. “Until The End” is definitely one of the best metal / rock CD´s released in Finland this year and I highly recommend everyone to check out this band!
