In The Wake Of Collisions
The Arcane Order
THE REVIEW:
The Arcane Order is a band that was originally started by guitarist Flemming C Lund in 2000 under the name Scavenger. During the lack of time the group was put on ice but in 2003 Flemming woke up the beast again and the group started writing their own material. The group, which also contains Kasper Thomsen, the singer of Raunchy handling vocals signed with Metal Blade and as a result “The Machinery Of Oblivion” was released in the summer of 2006. The band gained a lot of positive press from the release and now on January 11th along with a lot of anticipations comes the group´s second album “In The Wake Of Collisions”.
The band already gave a little storm warning with “The Machinery Of Oblivion” and now with “In The Wake Of Collisions” the storm begins. The band said that the album is going to be totally different from “The Machinery Of Oblivion” and I must admit that “In The Wake Of Collisions” is really far from what you would expect from the band as a follow-up. The band has really paid attention to the song structures which are way more complex than they have ever been bringing me acts like Strapping Young Lad into my mind. Still even though they have progressed a lot musically the main concept has remained pretty much the same and it is a combination of death and thrash metal. The drumming on “In The Wake Of Collisions” is once again really fast and tight and the guitarist Flemming shows he still knows how to shred with his axe. Raunchy´s singer Kasper is once again in his element by singing nicely on the melodic parts and screaming brutally on the more death metal oriented sections. As a highlight tracks I would go for “The Serpent Tower” because of it´s interesting song structure and “When Oceans Become Deserts” because of the nice, fast and technical drumming and catchy guitar riffs.
Nowadays when a lot of modern metal bands sound pretty much the same it´s nice to discover band´s who try to sound unique and do their own thing. The Arcane Order´s “In The Wake Of Collisions” is definitely one of these albums and I´d highly recommend everyone who is into more complicated metal and into bands such as Strapping Young Lad to check out this release. You won´t be disappointed!
