Mechanics of Dysfunction
Beneath The Massacre

THE REVIEW:

Hailing from Montreal, Canada this four-pieced regime Beneath The Massacre provide technical, yet extremely brutal approach on death metal. Following in the footsteps of their fellow countrymen, Cryptopsy, it is more than certain where the band has drawn the source for their brutality. Since their formation in 2004 the band has released one EP “Evidence of Inequity” in 2005. The effort was produced by Yannick St-Amand who has previously worked with acts such as Despised Icon and Ion Dissonance. The same person is also helming their debut full-length album “Mechanics of Dysfunction”. Released through Prosthetic Records in February 20th the ten tracks is total technical mayhem, throughout the 30-minutes.

Right from the beginning, “Mechanics of Dysfunction” takes you down mercilessly with its technical melodies and grinding force. There´s no doubt that these four musicians are skilled and devoted to what they do. The monotonous bowel grasping vocals of Elliot Desgagnés echo throughout the disc. Bassist Dennis Bradley and drummer Justin Rousselle provide a firm and stable framework for Christopher Bradley´s guitars. In the end, the album is not just mindless blasting; it surprises with a covert twists and turns here and there. Production quality is top notch when compared to what else the genre has to offer.

I recommend this album for anyone who likes their death metal technical and brutal. Fans of Nile, Origin and Cryptopsy should most definitely check this one out. The album is currently out on Prosthetic Records.
