Anatomy of Life
Noumena

THE REVIEW:

A band called Noumena was founded in Ähtäri, Finland in the year 1998 and the band has released a few demos and a couple of full-lengths up to date. The newest one is titled ´Anatomy of Life´ and it reflects the music style which we can hear in the albums of Eternal Tears of Sorrow, Insomnium, Kalmah and so on. So, the fans of those bands should check this one out.

The album starts with a track named ´Misanthropolis´ and the opening track couldn’t have succeeded much more. It purely shows what this band is all about. The next one is titled ´Burden of Solacement´ and it is also a very nice rally. The only thing which is annoying in these songs are the clean background vocals, they really fit in the album but I just don’t like them. The third track ´Retrospection´ has the same thing, and I think that ´problem´ carries itself into the end of the album. The next one is titled ´The Burning´ and it is a very powerful track. Then we can hear some acoustic guitar parts in the beginning of the fifth track ´Monument of Pain´ with female vocals. This is nowadays more a rule than an exception on dark melodic death metal records. The sixth track ´Triumph and Loss´ has magnificent guitar riffs and an ass-kicking, catchy chorus. The next one titled ´Marionettes´ follows pretty much the same style, it doesn’t have anything unusual. The eighth track ´Through the Element´ is another partly acoustic track also containing female vocals. The last one is named ´Fire And Water´ and it is quite a nice ending to the album.

´Anatomy of Life´ is a very nice album totally. There are a few things which could have been dropped out from the record and the result could have been a little better. Like I said in the beginning of this review, the fans of ETOS, Insomnium and Kalmah will surely like the record. ´Anatomy of Life´ is great amusement suiting especially these days when the winter is just coming.
