THE REVIEW:

A Finnish band Scorngrain has done it again. Their previous album called ‘Cyberwarmachine’ saw the daylight in the year 2004 and was praised in metal groups. Scorngrain’s music style is a combination of industrial and thrash metal including also some elements from death metal. There is no doubt that guitars and machine sounds are the main part in this so called cybermetal. Now Scorngrain has recorded a brand new album named ‘0,05%’ and it will be released in October under the label Dynamic Arts Records. Let’s take a look of what Scorngrain has brought off.

The album starts vigorously with a track called ‘The Code’ which shows that Scorngrain has became much heavier since the remarkable ‘Cyberwarmachine’. The magnificent beginning gets extension when the next track ‘Toadstool Journey’ airs. The third track ‘Mural’ brought the Swedish band Hypocrisy into my mind with its dark, wicked atmosphere. In the following track ‘Off with Their Heads’ Scorngrain returns into its roots like it does in the fifth track ‘Übermensch’, too. ‘Übermensch’ is absolutely the highest climax in the album with its memorable vocals, catchy guitars and little beep-things in every chorus. Although the feeling is awesome after the previous track, the sixth piece of cybermadness called ‘Draw the Line’ doesn’t lose its shine. The next track ‘Shot Down’ is a well-going track but the eighth track ‘Mama Stabber’ stole my attention and became one of my personal favourites in the album. A marvellous track called ‘Teaspoonful’ finishes the album and doesn’t leave anything for guessing. Scorngrain is definitely one of the greatest rising industrial metal bands up to date.

I really enjoyed listening to this record. ‘0,05%’ is a tough, raw and absolutely amazing metal experience. Melodies in the tracks are very catching and memorable and as a huge Alexi Laiho –fan, extra points go to the Scorngrain’s vocalist because he sounds once in a while a little like him. The album strikes in the listener’s consciousness right after the first listening and it doesn’t have to be gone deep into. I highly recommend ‘0,05%’ for everyone and for anyone who is even a little interested in some kind of metal. I’m really looking forward to seeing this band performing live some day. Warning: this record may cause obsession.
