Meaning In The Static
On The Last Day
THE REVIEW:
Victory Records have signed a lot of new acts during this year and one of them is On The Last Day who are about to release their debut album titled "Meaning In The Static" through the label on August 22nd. When I saw the guys promotional picture I first thought the album I got was from Aiden or AFI because of the make-up the band wears. When I put the CD into my cd-player and the album started I had to take a look to the picture again to make sure it wasn´t Aiden playing because the material is very similar.
On The Last Day uses the ever-familiar double vocal line, one screaming, one singing and does it by all the current trends. Like Aiden, the band has really classic punk rock drumming and guitars with that typical emo attitude which is currently so overpopulated. What makes this band differ from Aiden is the beautiful screaming when the vocalist screams his lungs out. Unfortunately he doesn't do it very often. The clean vocals sounds too much of a cliché, that you just want to throw-up while listening to them. While listening to this album you get the feeling that the band didn't really give a 100% while recording it and the riffs are just thrown all over the place like a mess. "Meaning In The Static" has it's good and bad moments but what is missing is the special ingredient that will make them rise from the middle class post-hardcore. Sound wise the band just gets lost in the mass production of the US hardcore and they definitely need to develope their sound to separate it from the mass.
Generally speaking On The Last Day´s new "Meaning In The Static" album is not so far from a failure, but it definitely shows some light in the end of the tunnel as well. For teenagers and fans of Aiden this album is like a wet dream. If you like to get emo every now and then, this might be an album for you. If you ain't that kind of a person, I really warmly recommend to leave this one into store. Too much of a cliché for my taste!
