THE REVIEW:

Note! Before reading this review note that the goat heads were given on demo level.
Sonicmind is a finnish metal band which was built to the ruins of couple finnish bands back in 2003. The bands main goal then was to make music withouth any genre limits or anything and for most of all, for themselves to pleasure their musical desires. After releasing their first demo in finnish mp3-website mikseri.net the band got a lot of positive feedback and their "hit" song "Everlasting" was downloaded more than 14000 during a couple of months. The demo also gained the interest of couple of labels but the band never ended up into record deal and now they are trying to get one with "Face Off".

"Face Off" consists of some kind of alternative metal which has great synth parts added into the concept. The opening song "Face Off" represents nice and really captivating intro which leads to a wonderful vocal work from Lauri Lähdesmäki. Mostly the vocals remind me of an band named 3rd Strike which has same kind of rapping vocals. The song leads really good taste into my mouth and the beginning is really promising. The next song is titled "Drive" which has a little bit faster tempo and the song is way more "metallic" than the first one. The band really has the correct attitude but the guitar riffs just won´t please me enough. The last song is titled "Reflections" and the song just reflects the main miss from the sound, the catchy guitar tones. The first song from the demo "Face Off" is definitely the best one with a little less metal attitude and more alternative aspects.

The band does a couple of nice and working tricks during the demo and the sing-a-longs are easy to follow but as a whole the demo really doesn´t offer anything astonishing. The effort is good, mixing is good, guitar riffs are good, vocals are good. The band really needs to do more tracks like "Face Off" which will maybe gain them a record deal in the future. A little more alternative side and keys into the picture and the result will be totally different and great.
