Death Pop Romance
Raunchy
THE REVIEW:
Denmark has quickly risen into European metal family by delivering such great bands as Hatesphere, As We Fight, The Psyke Project and Raunchy into the markets. Raunchy differs from the rest quite much because these other bands are more like metalcore and Raunchy´s previous albums "Confusion Bay" and "Velvet Noise" are more like melodic metal going in veins of In Flames and Soilwork. The band has risen in the past few years into the finest top of European melodic metal bands and you can clearly see why; the band is putting a lot of effort on their releases and they always release something new, fresh and astonishing. With their third full-length album "Death Pop Romance" which will be released through German Lifeforce Records Raunchy will deliver totally different but still very melodic march to the European finest top. Fasten your seatbelts, because the landing will happen on February 17th in Germany and on February 20th in the rest of the Europe.
With "Death Pop Romance" Raunchy reveals their more hardcore-oriented sound. The band has added to vocalists, one to handle screaming and other to handle clean vocals. The result of the vocals is way better than it were on "Confusion Bay" even though I really enjoyed that record. The band has managed again to capture really breathtaking and catchy guitar riffs that will haunt you through the whole CD. The main thing why I enjoy so much listening to this CD is the personal sound that Raunchy has, even though bands like In Flames and Soilwork are stamping the same paths, Raunchy still puts out unique riffs withouth copying from these two legends. The guitar hooks are really captivitating and the clean vocals really gives me shivers down on my back. The screaming just full-fills the musical enjoyment that Raunchy gives with "Death Pop Romance". This album has only one problem which rates the points a bit. The band had too many great ideas that they wanted to test on this new CD and few of the songs sound like the band have tried 10 different tricks withouth understading the whole entity of the song. The highlights of the album are definitely "Phantoms" and "The Legend Forever".
With "Death Pop Romance" Raunchy shows that the label switch from Nuclear Blast to Lifeforce didn´t affect to the bands sound too much. You can still hear the same kind of mind melting melodies that we have used to hear on Raunchy´s past albums. If you guys are bored of todays melodic metal scene I warmly recommend you to grab, steal or do anything to get Raunchy´s new "Death Pop Romance" into your hands. This album will appeal to people who enjoys listening to new In Flames or Soilwork but also people who like melodic hardcore will definitely enjoy Raunchy. Even though the year has just started I dare to say that "Death Pop Romance" will be the most original hardcore release of 2006!

When they added a screaming vocalist into their group. Yea, they sound like Soilwork and In Flames but Raunchy is more melodic and catchy than those other two you mentioned. I just love the record!!

screaming vocals don't automatically mean something is hardcore. a hardcore webzine admin should atleast know what the damn genre means.
maybe not soilwork, but in flames is definitely as melodic as raunchy.

I really liked the record, but I don`t think Raunchy sounds like In Flames or Soilwork. Raunchy has more of a unik style in their muisc. It takes the listner to a totally different place...depends on how high you are. But any way good record.
